Halloween isn't just for humans! Discover 4 simple, dog-safe Halloween snacks that you can easily make yourself with natural ingredients. From pumpkin-peanut butter bones to apple pupcakes. Healthy, fun, and irresistibly tasty for your furry friend.

Halloween isn't just a party for kids (and candy monsters 😉). Our dogs also deserve a treat on this spooky day.
While you enjoy pumpkin soup and chocolate (which your dog should not have!), you can make dog-friendly Halloween snacks with a few simple ingredients. Healthy, fun, and most importantly: tail-waggingly delicious. 🐾

Here are 4 easy, dog-safe Halloween recipes that you can whip up in no time, without any weird E-numbers or tummy troubles.

1. 👻 Pumpkin-Peanut Butter Bones

These bone-shaped treats are the perfect Halloween snack for your four-legged friend. There isn't a dog that doesn't love peanut butter, and pumpkin is not only very much in season, this vegetable is also very healthy for your dog. Pumpkin helps with digestion and can combat constipation and diarrhea. In addition, both ingredients are not only healthy but also very tasty!

Ingredients:

  • 340 gr. (or 2 ½ cups) of whole wheat flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 280 gr. (or 1 ¼ cups) pumpkin, cooked and pureed
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 65 gr. (or ¼ cup) peanut butter
  • 60 ml. (or ¼ cup) water

Supplies:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Silicone bone-shaped cupcake mold, or a “traditional” metal baking pan

How to make them:

  • Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350°F).
  • Put all ingredients in the bowl and mix until you have a smooth batter.
  • Spoon the mixture into the baking pan. Note: if using a regular baking pan, grease it first with some butter and then sprinkle a little flour over it.
  • Place the mold in the oven and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes.
  • To keep your Halloween treats fresh longer, it's best to store them in an airtight container. They will stay good for up to two months!

2. 🧀 Cheesy Pumpkin Mummies

Your furry friend will be in seventh heaven with these cheesy snacks – and they look adorable too! They're not difficult to make, and the entire baking process takes less than an hour. With such terrifyingly delicious treats, your dog will have the perfect savory dog biscuits to share with their friends this Halloween.

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 170 gr. (or ¾ cup) pumpkin, cooked and pureed
  • 250 gr. (or 2 cups) grated cheddar (or other low-fat cheese)
  • 250 gr. (or 2 cups) whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder

For the filling:

  • 55 gr. (or ½ cup) pumpkin, cooked and pureed
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 generous teaspoon fresh or dried parsley (optional)

For decoration:

  • Dog-friendly white icing (available at pet stores), white carob chips, or low-fat cream cheese
  • Black edible marker

Supplies:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Baking sheet
  • Round cookie cutter
  • Pizza cutter or regular knife

How to make them:

  • Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350°F).
  • Whisk the eggs in the large bowl, then add the oil and pumpkin. Next, add the cheddar to the mixture, followed by the flour and baking powder. Knead with your hands until you have a smooth dough that is not too sticky, but also not too dry.
  • Set aside about 1/3 of your dough. Dust your counter or cutting board with flour and roll out the rest of the dough into a sheet about half a centimeter thick.
  • Mix the pumpkin, egg yolk, and parsley in the small bowl to make the filling, and spread this mixture evenly over the dough.
  • Now roll out the dough you set aside earlier into a sheet about half a centimeter thick. Cut the dough into thin strips with a knife or pizza cutter, and place them somewhat haphazardly on top of the filling to create a "bandage"-like mummy look.
  • Cut out the cookies with the cutter, place them on the baking sheet, and bake for 17-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let the cookies cool and, in the meantime, roll the icing into small balls. These will be the mummies' eyes. Place them on the cookies and put a black dot in the center of each ball with the edible marker.
  • If you can't find dog-friendly icing, you can also melt some white carob chips, or even use cream cheese or yogurt for the eyes (as long as the consistency isn't too thin). Do whatever is easiest for you!

3. 🍎 Apple-Cinnamon Pupcakes

Few things in life are more delicious than a pastry with sweet, warm apples on a cold autumn evening. And with these pupcakes, your four-legged friend can enjoy it too. A nice bonus: when you bake these Halloween cupcakes, your entire house will smell wonderfully of warm apple pie. Who wouldn't want that!

Ingredients:

  • 65 gr. (or ¼ cup) applesauce
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp. honey
  • 500 gr. (or 4 cups) whole wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • ½ to 1 apple (preferably Goudreinette), peeled and diced
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 470 ml. (or 2 cups) water

Supplies:

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon
  • Cupcake tin

How to make them:

  • Preheat your oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350°F).
  • Whisk the applesauce, water, vanilla extract, egg, and honey in the large mixing bowl.
  • Then slowly add the flour and baking powder to the wet ingredients, and stir well to combine everything thoroughly.
  • Grease your cupcake tin, put some batter in each cup, and bake for about 35 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let the pupcakes cool and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • If it were up to your dog, they would devour an entire pupcake, but since these treats are quite large, it's better to give them to your furry friend in moderation. Break a cupcake into pieces and feed them throughout the day (or even a few days) as a delicious spooky snack.

4. ❄️ Pumpkin Fro-Yo’s

Do you prefer to give your four-legged friend something healthier this year, but still want to make it delicious and special? Then these pumpkin yogurt pops are the perfect treat! Not only do they look super fun, but they also taste spookily good, so your dog can even enjoy them if they're on a diet. What's more, you don't have to spend hours in the kitchen: just put all the ingredients in a mixing bowl, blend them into a smooth mixture, pour them into their ice pop molds, and let them set in the freezer.

Ingredients:

  • 120 ml. (or ½ cup) low-sodium chicken broth
  • 110 gr. (or ½ cup) pumpkin, cooked and pureed
  • 60 ml. (or ¼ cup) yogurt
  • 1 tsp. honey

Supplies:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Silicone molds in the shape of pumpkins (or other Halloween figures!)

How to make them:

  • Put the pumpkin and chicken broth in the bowl and mix until you have a smooth mixture.
  • Pour the mixture into the molds, filling them about two-thirds full.
  • Place the molds in the freezer and let them set.
  • Meanwhile, mix the yogurt and honey in a bowl.
  • Pour this yogurt mixture on top of the frozen pumpkin mixture, until the molds are completely full.
  • Place the molds back in the freezer and let everything set for about 1-2 hours.

🐶 A small warning

Even though these snacks are healthy, they are still treats.
Give them in moderation (1 to 2 per day is enough) — and never replace a real meal. Also, be mindful of any allergies. When in doubt, always consult your veterinarian first.
